ITC's Molofsky Wins 2008 Groat Award from Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations
April 30, 2008

Robert Molofsky
Robert Molofsky, Vice President and Special Counsel of the AFL-CIO Investment Trust Corporation (ITC), was honored with the Groat Award from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR). The annual award recognizes exceptional professional accomplishment in the field of industrial and labor relations as well as outstanding contributions to the school. Named for Judge William B. Groat, the New York State Supreme Court justice who was instrumental in the founding of the ILR School, the Groat Award is the highest honor an ILR alumnus can receive. Molofsky was honored at a gala celebration held on March 27 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City attended by over 500 alumni, faculty, students, family and friends of the school from the New York City labor/management community.

Accepting the award, Molofsky noted that "so much about labor/management relations has changed since I graduated, but the constant struggle to ensure that workers get the dignity, respect and benefits they deserve endures, and so does the mission of the ILR. That is what the Groat award represents, my commitment to the school and my sense of purpose on behalf of the labor movement."

Before coming to the ITC, Molofsky served for 25 years in senior staff positions with the 185,000-member Amalgamated Transit Union, first as legislative/political director (1981-1996) and then as general counsel (1996-2006). In 1999, he was admitted as a fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Molofsky currently serves as an adjunct Professor for the ILR's Washington, DC, Credit Intern Program, where he teaches a course on congressional procedure and public policy. The seminar is designed to help ILR students better understand the political process and how it shapes workplace policies.

Molofsky received a Bachelor's degree from the Cornell ILR School in 1972 and a Juris Doctorate from American University, Washington College of Law in 1977.
