Edward C. Sullivan

Edward C. Sullivan became President of the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, on April 15, 2000. He had previously served since 1998 as General President of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. He began his career in the elevator trade in 1964 in Boston, where he later became Business Manager of Local No. 4. In 1996 he was elected assistant to the General President of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. Sullivan also chaired the Board of Elevator Regulators in Massachusetts for ten years and served for twelve years as Vice President of the Massachusetts State Building Trades Council. In 1997 the Massachusetts AFL-CIO honored him with the Gompers-Murray-Meany Award, its top leadership award.
